Chiropractic Treatment for Sports Injuries
Recently, chiropractic care has received a lot of attention regarding its successful treatment and management of sporting injuries. Due to the majority of sports injuries being "soft tissue in nature", and because many arise from improper body biomechanics and improper technique, Doctors of Chiropractic have become the "Sports Doctors of choice" - for the professional athlete, the young little leaguer or the weekend warrior.
In an article of The Physician and Sports Medicine (June 1998), it states that the "Interest in alternative or complementary medicine 'especially chiropractic' is booming... active patients are running to unconventional providers to treat their aches and pains..."
It's really simple. When it comes to sports injuries, Dr. Morales’ chiropractic care - through the use of safe and natural spinal adjustive techniques, soft tissue mobilization, physical therapy applications, stretching and exercise programs, extensive biomechanical training, as well as, diet and nutritional counseling - focuses on all causes of the injury, which have lead to the symptoms of pain and do not focus on solely eliminating pain. Her personal experience as an amateur and NCAA Division II collegiate athlete (who suffered from many sports injuries), gives her the expertise and empathy it takes to successfully diagnose and treat these unique type of injuries.
For Dr. Morales’ successful treatment of a sports injury, she must focus not only on pain relief, but must also address the underlying causes, such as muscular imbalances, improper sporting techniques, biomechanical deficiencies, and improper conditioning, just to name a few. To do this, Dr. Morales has asked cyclists to bring their bicycles to the office in order to see if the patient was properly fitted for his bike. She has also gone to a wrestling tournament of a state ranked high school patient to find out why and how wrestler’s knees get injured. This is the kind of commitment Dr. Morales has to her patients and to sports injuries!
Many competitive and professional athletes like former US Olympic Water Polo player (1984) and coach (2008) and now US Olympic Water Polo team Chiropractor, Dr. Rick Schroeder, know the value of regular chiropractic care. Chiropractic care Increases flexibility, energy, speed, and optimal performance. Not to mention, it decreases the incidence of further, more chronic injuries. These are all benefits of chiropractic care!
In fact, it's becoming rare to find a professional or amateur sports team that does not have a team chiropractor. In the professional sports world, just in Northern California alone, teams such as the San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants and the San Jose Sharks have their own team chiropractor. This is why Dr. Morales extends help beyond her office walls to the football field as one of the Team Physicians for local high school athletes here in Escondido.
